On February 21st, the Metropolitan-Savannah Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (MSAVHCC) held its monthly breakfast in the Savannah Morning News Auditorium. A delicious traditional breakfast of pancakes scrambled eggs and bacon was provided by Quantum catering services.
AFLAC agent and chamber member, Francisco Betancourt, gave an informative presentation on short-term disability insurance. A native of Venezuela, Betancourt has won numerous sales awards since joining AFLAC four years ago. He was joined at the meeting by Dennis Engle, AFLAC market manager for the Savannah area.
AFLAC is a Fortune 500 company, based in Columbus, Georgia, providing financial protection to more than 50 million people worldwide.
“The thing that sets AFLAC apart from all other insurers is our “ONE-DAY PAY” that makes cash payments on disability claims usually within one day of a claim being filed,” Betancourt said. “When you have a disabling injury or condition, you still have many bills that must be paid on time regardless of whether you are able to earn a living or not. And no one in the industry pays out claims faster than AFLAC.”
AFLAC sells a variety of insurance products including life, hospitalization, cancer, short-term disability and accident policies through business payroll deductions and they are not available to individual private consumers.
“The great thing about our program is that it costs the business owner nothing out of pocket,” Betancourt said. “The employer needs only to sign up three workers and all of the premiums are handled through payroll deductions.”
Betancourt said that AFLAC was making a concerted effort to open up its services to Hispanic consumers.
“We Latinos are the fastest growing demographic in this country, “he said. “We have the same needs and concerns as everyone else and employees don’t have to be US citizens or have a social security number to enroll in our programs through their employer.”

MSAVHCC president, Alfonso Ribot, announced that the chamber will host a Business Women’s Expo in May of 2017.
“This event will feature a fashion show with jewelry and clothing from local Latino craftspeople,” Ribot said. “We are still in the planning stages so I invite anyone who has an interest in participating in this event to contact me for more information.
