Feel better fast with IV therapy

Two years ago, Colombian actress, Sofia Vergara, raised eyebrows when she stationed a first-aid truck outfitted with IV therapy equipment next to the pool cabanas so guests to her three-day wedding bash in Palm Beach could refresh themselves after too much party time.

Until recently, the intravenous fluid bag was a medical fixture exclusive to hospitals and emergency rooms. But today, IV therapy is quickly becoming the go-to solution at walk-in clinics for health and wellness problems including migraine headaches, menstrual cramps, diabetes, fibromyalgia, asthma and breathing problems.

Here in Savannah, Family Nurse Practitioner, Violeta Hicks, who speaks fluent Spanish, now offers a wide variety of IV therapy regimens to walk-in patients at her SATS Urgent Care facility. For many years, Hicks has worked weekends as an emergency room nurse at the Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville and witnessed firsthand the restorative benefits of IV therapy.

“IV therapy offers 100% absorption versus only 15-20% for pills and liquids that are swallowed and absorbed through the gastrointestinal tract and in many cases, our patients experience the health and recovery benefits in less than an hour,” she said.

Hicks, who speaks fluent Spanish, was born in Colon, Panama but moved to New York City when she was 9-years-old. A tour of duty in the U.S. Army brought her south to Fort Stewart and she made Savannah her permanent home when she was discharged from the military thirty years ago.

Because of her background, Hicks is especially proud to offer her services to the Latino community. “Many of my Hispanic patients are so relieved to discover someone who speaks their language and understands what they are saying,” she said. “We offer 18 different IV cocktails, including some that promote health and energize the body like the famous Myer’s Cocktail and others that fight cancer cells by boosting the immune system.”

The SATS Urgent Care IV therapy bar features a private room with soft lighting and comfortable reclining chairs. A big screen TV is available for clients who want to watch a movie during their treatment.

Some of the more popular IV cocktails offered by SATS Urgent Care include

The Hangover- Quick recovery after a night of drinking/partying

La Mexicana- Hydration and nutrients for your hair, skin, and bones.

Mr./Ms. Olympia- IV therapy for athletes, weight lifters, military, fitness enthusiasts. Speed up your healing with complex vitamins and Carnitine.

Macho Man- Boosts your sex drive/libido/energy and stamina.

Mama Mia- For pregnant women, it offers vitamin replacement for Mom and folic acid for her baby.

Quicker Picker-Upper- A quick fix for jet lag or dehydration.

Fountain Of Youth- Anti-Aging/Immune System Booster

IV hydration therapy is not recommended for people suffering from heart failure or kidney disease so new clients answer a few general health questions before beginning their IV treatments.

Prices for IV therapy vary from $99 to $250 depending on the number and complexity of the ingredients.

Hicks said the typical IV therapy takes from 45 minutes to one hour while the vitamin shots take less than 5 minutes. SATS Urgent Care also offers 100% pure oxygen therapy for migraine headaches and can add medicinal compounds to their IV cocktails for specific ailments like upset stomachs and arthritis flare-ups. The vitamin therapy cocktails can be especially important to gastric bypass surgery patients who have lost the ability to absorb essential vitamins and minerals through eating.

“Everything we do here is geared toward the convenience of our patients,” Hicks said. “And we now offer a concierge service that brings our IV therapy to your home, office, hotel, or business venue for an additional fee.”

Hicks said IV therapy is also offered at the Zen Den Massage Studio in Hinesville.

The holiday season can be an especially stressful time for many reasons. Shopping, hosting family parties, and over-indulging in food and alcohol can all lead to a breakdown in the body's ability to cope and recover.

A visit to SATS Urgent Care for IV therapy should be at the top of your Christmas gift list!
